ACS&T celebrates 20 year anniversary with La Menorquina

La Menorquina's Operations Director, Declan Matthews explains the successes in ACS&T and La Menorquina's 20 year working relationship.

The longevity of ACS&T’s 20-year partnership with leading Spanish ice cream brand La Menorquina is described as ‘remarkable’ by its sales director Richard Holt.


Creating authentic Mediterranean desserts for discerning restaurants worldwide, La Menorquina entrusts ACS&T with the storage and distribution of all its premium ice cream products across the UK and Ireland. La Menorquina is a distinctive global brand with a great heritage.  Its story began in 1940 as a family business founded by pastry chef Fernando Sintes in a small town called Alaior in Menorca.Inspired by the island’s flavours and traditions, La Manorquina’s authentic artisan frozen desserts and pastries are exported to more than 47 countries today. The company’s raison d'être is to help the catering industry create exclusive dessert solutions for clients, while taking special care of the quality of all its products. It means that managing the logistics of 45 different products and their delivery to over 90 depots nationwide - from John O’Groats to Land’s End or Kerry - within two days at minus 20 degrees is a big responsibility, explained Richard. “Ours is a complex supply chain, and it’s made simple for us by ACS&T.”


Declan Matthews, operations director, is the interface with ACS&T and explains that the process starts with La Menorquina importing products from its Barcelona factory on a weekly basis, when they are handed over to ACS&T for receipt, storage, order fulfilment and onward delivery to a network of foodservice distributors of all sizes nationwide.

“ACS&T controls the intake, and places it on their system so we can see instantly when it arrives.  That means we know it’s live, we can see exactly where it is and that it’s available for picking.

“They pick our products to order and control our ‘best before’ dates.  It all happens automatically on their system, and to us that’s a very big tick.”

“Some operators are open 24 hours, others vary.  ACS&T has a very, very good feel for this.  That is special in a high turnover business, like ACS&T, and it’s great they can treat us as an individual customer.

La Menorquina’s stock is looked after in a tightly controlled environment at ACS&T’s BRC accredited cold storage facility (in Wolverhampton).  “All our products are ice cream, so temperature control is absolutely critical, it cannot fluctuate.”

“What makes ACS&T special is they have a very clear understanding of our business, developed over two decades of working with us.  They know the importance of temperature control, service and timing.

“Above all, they are very accessible.  The online system is fantastic, we can access our stock online 24-hours a day, monitor what’s there, its whole history and what’s reserved for later deliveries. That means we have absolute control, remotely.”


Despite the huge scale operation, visits to the cold store are rarely needed, added Richard.  “We genuinely feel we don’t need to visit the cold store, that’s how good they are. “The key to our long partnership is the 50/50 mix of quality of our products and service to foodservice distributors, and that service is down to ACS&T.”
