Since the 1st of June, some of our ACS&T employees have been busy partaking in our parent company, Camellia Plc's Virtual Mission, 'Around the World in 80 Days' and have come together to make up Camellia's superteam collectively.
This virtual event has given employees across the Camellia group the chance to get active through various sports (whether it be walking, running, swimming or cycling… the list goes on) and to track their steps to achieve the combined goal of covering 43,000Km's and completing the virtual map, which started at AJT Engineering base in Scotland and is planned to end at Camellia's HQ in Kent. And throughout the journey, it has called at several group locations along the way, including our very own head office in Grimsby!
Whilst encouraging team spirit and enjoying the outdoors, this great initiative is to raise money for UNICEF and support the fantastic work they do as they continue to alleviate the Covid-19 crisis that has impacted us all. UNICEF work in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, defend their rights and help them fulfil their potential from early childhood through adolescence. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended the lives of children and their families across the globe, and UNICEF is working with experts to promote facts over fear, bringing reliable guidance to parents, caregivers and educators, and partnering with front-line responders to ensure they have the information and resources they need to keep children healthy and learning. So, all money raised will be going to Unicef UK to continue this vital work!
To encourage friendly competition and add an element of competitiveness to this challenge, there is a leaderboard for members to see how everyone has been contributing, and we are proud to say that since beginning the virtual mission, we have had two ACS&T employees who have consistently been in the top ten and clocking up the miles!
First of which being our IT Technical Support Manager, James Mundy. James has clocked up an impressive 2,160km so far and said: "I've always enjoyed cycling and the freedom of being out on the road, there's a certain satisfaction in being able to do some decent mileage in a relatively short period…. Also, who doesn't enjoy going fast down the hills?
"It's great to be a part of something bigger and working towards a shared goal on behalf of such a good cause. I've also enjoyed connecting\competing with other participants; I'm positive I wouldn't have amassed so many miles without the motivation of seeing other member's distances pop up on Strava every morning!"
